Bio

In 2005 I completed my BFA with Distinction, receiving some awards along the way including, Florence Andison Friedman Award 2005, Heinz Jordan Memorial Scholarship 2004, and Jason Lang Scholarship 2004 and 2003. These were both helpful and encouraging.

Since University I have continued to work as a graphic designer, finding as much time as possible as to paint. I had my first solo show in Winter of 2005 and have worked on maturing my paintings since then.

I am inspired by travel. I have lived in New Zealand and traveled to Europe a couple of times and am drawn to big cities like New York and Montreal. Traveling allows me to see how other people live and see amazing things which overall helps define my experience in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, which is often present in my paintings. In 2007 I travelled with the University of Alberta for a watercolour course in Vico Equense, Italy and in 2009 I was able to travel to Portugal as an Artist in Residence in OBRAS.

I love music and am often going to shows and festivals in the summer. I listen to music while I work, relax and while I paint and without a doubt it inspires parts of my painting.

In my life I have a compulsion to create. I make gifts for friends, I try to make music, I make complicated meals, I make scarves in winter and I make art. Making art satisfies an internal need to create and share and gives me a chance to have a closer look at the world around me.
